PED committee Meeting participants testified that majority of GBV cases at household level were influenced by family property management and commend Prevention+ contribution in reducing related cases.
“I grew up seeing my father managing every property at home. Harvests and livestock were all controlled by my father. My mother was not allowed to even provide a cup of a beer to her colleague. I replicated my father’s model after my weeding. I and my wife used to live a suspicious life until I got changed through Prevention+ trainings.” Nshimyumukiza Boniface, a meeting participant from Rugabano sector.
This was revealed through the routine quarterly coordination meetings with Parents Evening Dialogues (PED) committee members organized by Rwanda Men’s Resource Center (RWAMREC) and Karongi district through Promundo supported Prevention+ Project.
These meetings are happening in all 13 sectors of the district to 1074 PED committee member representatives, for Prevention+ implementers to learn about implementation progress, achievements, challenges and new recommendations to better achieve project goals.
Experience of other meeting participants clarify that a quick reduction of GBV and family conflicts was facilitated by PED committee members who changed themselves to serve the rest of the community members as role models instead of instructors.
Prevention+ project is aimed at encouraging collaboration between men and women/ boys and girls in ending Gender Based Violence (GBV). It is implemented in close collaboration with Karongi district and works at community level in the existing structures to enable sustainability of activities.
