RWAMREC together with some international partners (Population and Health Research Institute (PHERI), University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), International Centre for Research on Women (ICRW); have secured funds from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to implement a 42 month-multicounty research project of Promoting positive masculinity for sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender equality in informal settlements in selected cities in sub-Saharan Africa.

A kick off 4-day meeting gathering the representatives from the four partners and the donor was convened in Kigali from Monday 27th up to Thursday 30th to 1) deepen their collective understanding of the project and align on objectives of the partnership, 2) clarify institutional roles and agree on approaches to working together, 3) define and agree on key project milestones, and, 4) agree on a work plan and immediate next steps.

On the side of Rwanda, we are expecting this research project help us generating and disseminate evidence on the content, implementation, successes and challenges of male-targeted SRHR and gender norms change, assess the gender attitudes, norms and practices as well as SRHR behaviors of men and boys, support selected existing male-targeted SRHR and gender norms change initiatives to use emerging evidence for program improvement, foster strategic alliances and partnerships with critical stakeholders including policymakers and implementers to ensure more effective male-targeted SRHR initiatives, all in all, in poor urban settlements.
