From Monday 15th to 18th 2019, the Rwanda Men’s Resource Centre through Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Project (GEWEP) in the Southern province, conducted monthly meetings with Community Activists in all the Sectors (CAs).
In some sectors Community Activists and Men Engage club members were brought together to increase the synergy in terms of helping the community fight Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in their families. The activity was conducted in all the 8 Districts covered by Gender Equality and Empowerment Program.
The main objective of the monthly meetings is to collect reports from Community Activists actions and to plan for the coming weeks. During April’s monthly meetings, posters on engaging men were distributed, as tools to be used by the Activists for the 3rd and 4th phase of Activism.
In a bid to monitor the activities of GEWEP, GEWEP Project Coordinator, Bosco Rudasingwa conducted a field visit to attend the monthly meetings with community activists, field officers and opinion leaders.
The Project Coordinator, Bosco encouraged the participants to be active and passionately engage people to fight Gender Based Violence and discussed with them about the project.
The main focus of GEWEP is to engage men in supporting women empowerment measures. In its second phase, GEWEP main strategies is to mobilize, train and equip community activists who are expected to bring the change in terms of power balance between men and women, and taking actions to prevent Gender based violence prevailing in their respective communities.
