Rwanda Men’s Resource Centre through Prevention+ Programme joined Karongi District to Celebrate the International Women’s Day in Murundi Sector. The government of Rwanda was represented by Hon. IMANRIHO Clarisse who was a guest of honor. Karongi District was represented by the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs and other various authorities from different institutions.
The International women’s day is world widely celebrated on 8th March every year. RWAMREC distributed mobilization materials including T-shirts and banners which indicated the role of men in women empowerment and the promotion of women’s rights.
The guest of Honor Hon, Clarisse observed that Rwandese have to learn from the country’s history regarding the unfair treatment towards women and work hard to ensure that women enjoy their rights.
“Our history is in a way that women were denied their rights and the society was characterized by social injustice against women. Therefore, all of us have to take advantage of the current setting where through political will and legal framework men and women are supposed to equally enjoy their rights in order to have safe families in the country.
At National level, the theme of the day was: Dufatane urunana, twubake umuryango utekany, loosely meaning that together we build a safe family. RWAMREC through Gender and Women Empowerment Project (GEWEP) also celebrated IWD in Muhanga, Ruhango, Gisagara and Nyamagabe Districts and through Ending Gender Based Violence (EDV) project celebrated the day in Rulindo District.
