Delegates from the Parliament, the National Women Council and Burera district officials praised RWAMREC in their speeches for the contribution in promoting gender equality, women’s participation and empowerment. On behalf of RWAMREC management, the staff working in Burera district explained the Indashyikirwa Agents for Change project as well as its impact on families and society in general. They also thanked the district officials for their support. A couple of trained gender activists who experienced gender based violence in their family testified in front of a huge crowd attending the celebration and explained the support RWAMREC has provided to change their conflict situation into a peaceful and loving family. The couple wished RWAMREC could train more dedicated gender activists who help local citizens to challenge current negative attitudes and behaviors perceived among men and women, leading to violence and poverty.
